The kids have had their first piece of work assessed for surface features. They now know the score they have to beat next time.

On Monday, while the Year 5's were out swimming, the year 4's imagined and described a fruit that only grows on their island. They made them out of clay later on. Hopefully these will be painted soon!

Hi Parents,

It’s been nice meeting first-time Room 3 parents and it’s always great to have second-time Room 3 parents back again. There are even some third-time Room 3 parents this year! Time does fly. It always amazes me how different some siblings can be!

This will be my sixth year at Pahoia School and I am as excited as ever to be teaching in Room 3. I already know most of the Room 3 children well from maths swap and working closely with Room 4 class last year. I’m really looking forward to teaching your child full-time.

It’s my aim to give your child the best year of their schooling. Miss Lee and I have planned a fun-filled term of learning for our classes and will be working together much like we did last year. Your child will work hard but they will have a lot of fun in the process with creative activities. Photos of what’s been going on in Room 3 will be posted here on the Room 3 website.

I will be talking about how Room 3 works in detail at the Meet The Teacher Evening on the 16th of February (6:45 start). If you are unable to make it that evening I will send your child home with a booklet with all the info you need to know about Room 3. If you have any questions beforehand, please feel free to come in and see me or e-mail me at mr.e@pahoia.school.nz

Thank you for organising your child’s stationery so promptly. We can get down to business in Room 3 straight away.

Everything going to plan, spelling homework will start week 2. Your child will bring their homework book home next Monday night. Reading books will come home at the end of Week 3 or start of Week 4 as I need to spend time assessing the children’s reading levels first.

From Week 2 onwards Room 3 will swim on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Most importantly, please feel free have your child tour you through the class or talk you through their bookwork anytime.

Monday 18th October

Hi Parents, Room 3 and 4 camp is quickly approaching. We have an awesome time planned for your child. Some of the activities include: making “hobo stoves” and cooking corn fritters on them, “baking” a hot dog camp style, keeping a camp diary, walking the nature trail, two bush walks, the log game, a burma trail, a night rope walk (parent will go with scared children), round robin team sports events, bivouac building, two Mr.E specials and a talent show which you are invited to.

Thank you to those parents who have brought in large tins. We have enough now.

Can you help?
Please send your child to camp with a spatula (if possible)
Please could we borrow your tin snips from now until the camp is over

Reminders:
• Please pay your child’s $45 to the office (Tuesday 19th October at the latest)
• Please return your child’s health profile and consent and risk disclosure form
• You need to arrange transport for your child to be at Aongatete Lodge next Tuesday
• They need to arrive at camp between 8.30 and 9.00AM that morning
• Your child needs to be picked up from camp between noon and 1PM on Thursday
• Your family is invited to the talent show, Wednesday night, starting at 7PM
• Your child requires a carton to participate in the “baking” of their hot dog dinner

Dear Parents

On Friday the 15th of October Room 3 will be creating vegetable/fruit creatures for Ag day. We will also look at ideas in class. The creations can be standing up or lying down. Please view the ideas included below.

Could your child please bring their vegetables/fruit to school on Friday. It is a good idea to have their vegetables/fruit pre-cut although we will provide small knives on the day. (No knives are to be brought to school by the children please). We will supply the toothpicks for attaching limbs etc.

Bananas are not recommended as they will turn brown by Saturday.

Room 3 will be open on Ag day to view the children’s creations.

Camp notice

Friday 17th September

Hi Parents, just letting you know that Room 3 and 4’s Term 4 camp will be at Aongatete Lodge from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th October. It will cost $45 per child and $45 per adult. More details, a permission slip, medical form and a checklist of things to bring will be coming home next week with your child.

At this early stage we would like an indication of parents who are available to help out for the entire camp period (including staying both nights). Parent numbers are limited so please return the slip (that should have come home tonight) ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Whale Watching Notice

Dear Parents, you are invited to step inside our life-sized inflatable whale to watch a short movie featuring the children of Room 3 and 4. Please visit us this Monday between 2.15PM and 3.00PM. Extended family and friends welcome!

If the weather is wet and/or windy on Monday, please phone the school office to check if the whale show is still on. Postponement dates (if needed) will be posted here!

Trip to Kelly Tarltons!

Dear Parent,

As part of our Celebrating our World theme and our term 1 focus on Antarctica, Rooms 3 and 4 will be having a day trip to Kelly Tarltons on Wednesday the 24th March.

We will leave Pahoia School at 8.30AM so we can be at Kelly Tarltons ready for the 11.30AM penguin feed. Afterwards we will have a lesson from a Kelly Tarltons staff member. Then at 1.30PM we will watch the Life on Ice presentation. We will have a quick play around at a nearby park before the bus ride home, leaving Auckland at 2.30PM. We will be arriving back at school at between 5 – 5.30PM.

This will be my fifth year at Pahoia School and I am as excited as ever to be teaching in Room 3. It’s my aim to give your child the best year of their schooling. They will work hard this year but we will have a lot of fun in the process with creative activities. Teachers at Pahoia tend to buddy up for planning with another class and Petria Lee and I have planned a fun-filled term of learning. I will be talking about this more at the Meet The Teacher Evening on the 17th of February (6:45 start). I will be collecting parent e-mail addresses that evening as this is the main way I communicate with parents during the year. If you can’t make the meeting, it is important you e-mail me so I have your address otherwise I can’t keep you updated with what is going on.

Homework will start week 4, after I discuss it at the Meet The Teacher Evening.

From Week 2 onwards Room 3 will swim on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Clear communication between us is crucial for the best education of your child. If you have any concerns, please feel free to see me or e-mail me. PLEASE feel free have your child tour you through the class or talk you through their bookwork anytime.
